I like to consider oDesk as a meeting point or a common platform for employers and contractors/employees. It is simply a website with a provision for employers to post job openings to which contractors apply. If the employer likes your application, they open an interview. The two parties communicate using tools made available by the website. If you become successful, a contract is started by the employer. If the job is hourly (you will get to understand this later), oDesk provides a tool through which the employer can monitor your progress. The employer pays you through oDesk after which you can withdraw the earnings using one of the various methods made available by oDesk. Anyone, from any part of the world, can work on this site and access their earnings without any problems.
